Summer Sounds

Albany's free concert series on Monday nights in July @ Monteith Riverpark. The concerts are offered in a relaxed atmosphere, featuring regional artists and produced by Albany Parks & Recreation.

In light of today’s announcement by Oregon Governor Kate Brown, we will sadly not be able to present River Rhythms, Summer Sounds and Northwest Art & Air Festival as planned. Over the last few weeks, our team has been working through a variety of possible scenarios to still bring some excitement to Albany this summer.

Stay tuned to our social media and website as we will release information regarding our finalized plan in the weeks to come. We are working hard to communicate with our sponsors, performers, and vendors to ensure we are all on the same page.

We appreciate your support and patience as we navigate these uncertain times. We have a Parks & Recreation team that is second to none, we put heart and soul into these programs. This is extremely difficult for us, but we're not letting it get us down for long! We look forward to updating you soon. Be well and remember, summer is not cancelled, it is just going to look a little different.

July 27 We will be having an Albany favorite...

The Coats!

Nationally touring artists, The Coats are the Pacific Northwest's premiere a cappella band. They have performed for MDA benefits, the Susan G. Komen foundation, high schools, colleges, fairs, and community centers across the country, the President of the United States, and have shared the stage with dozens of acts as vastly different as Gallagher, The Beach Boys, Jay Leno, Trisha Yearwood, and Eddie Money.

Visit www.thecoats.net or for more information on the concert series www.albanysummersounds.org

July 20 we have the pleasuring of featuring Portland based powerhouse Arietta Ward at Summer Sounds!

There are people who know how to take the tragic and make it magic. Arietta Ward is one of those people. The eldest daughter of the late, legendary Janice Scroggins, the sudden loss of her mother became the catalyst to solidifying her space on the stage – a space that Arietta, commonly known as Mz. Etta, has already occupied for years.

Alongside everyone who is anyone in Portland’s multi genre music scene, Mz. Etta has been a staple.

For more on Arietta Ward visit www.mzettasworld.com, for information on the concert series visit www.albanysummersounds.org

July 13 we will be groovin' to...

Birch Pereira & The Gin Joints

To step into the soundscape of Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints is to have your fingers on a veritable radio dial. With deep sonic roots in virtually every style of mid-20th century American music - from americana to blues to jazz, soul and vintage rock ’n’ roll - the versatile Seattle-based band offers a rangy dial’s worth of songs for audiences who want to sock-hop in poodle skirts one minute, rock out to hot guitar licks the next and later hug their honeys under the stars as a car stereo plays into the night.

Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints are a popular Northwest band who perform extensively on the West Coasts of the US and Canada with recurring gigs in New York City, New Orleans and Los Angeles as well. In 2016 their first album, Dream Man, won Earshot Jazz Society’s "Northwest Jazz Recording of the Year" and in 2017 & 2018 Birch was nominated as "Vocalist of the Year".

Winner of the 2010 and 2012 Blues Music Award for Soul Blues Artist Of The Year, Salgado effortlessly mixes blues, funk and R&B with a delivery that is raw and heartfelt. He moves with ease from the tenderest ballads to the most full-throated stompers. Blues Revue says, “Salgado is one of the most down-to-earth, soulful, honest singers ever, and his harmonica work is smoking and thoroughly invigorating…rollicking, funky and electrifying.” With his Alligator Records debut, Soul Shot, Salgado is set to reach the largest audience of his career.

Kalimba (Earth, Wind, and Fire Tribute band)

The nationally touring show Kalimba, The Spirit of Earth Wind and Fire provides an Earth Wind & Fire experience so satisfying it transports audiences back to the excitement of the first time they heard these unforgettable songs.
Lead vocalist, Thomas “Chazz” Smith, created Kalimba, The Spirit of Earth Wind and Fire in 2011 with the vision of honoring the beloved Earth Wind & Fire hits he and millions of others listened to while growing up. The 10-piece organization includes a full horn and rhythm section to reproduce the infectious grooves created by EWF’s Verdine White and Ralph Johnson. In February the loss of EWF’s founder and musical genius, Maurice White, left the world mourning, but Kalimba, The Spirit of Earth Wind and Fire faithfully honors his work by featuring lush treatments of the soaring vocal harmonies that are the hallmark of Earth Wind & Fire’s music and EWF’s late founder, musical genius, Maurice White. Performances authentically replicate the signature high notes of Maurice White’s sidekick, Philip Bailey.

Join us on July 8 at 7pm to enjoy this amazing show! Concerts are in Monteith Riverpark and are FREE thanks to our amazing community sponsors.
