Day 2 of American Craft Beer Week has us reflecting on our local community, the friends we have made, and the beer ideas inspired by both. One of our favorites has to be Cool Runnings, a Maple Stout brewed with the help of Tantrick Mug Club Members, Jeff Morrie and his son, Jackson. Cool Runnings is brewed with maple tree sap runnings collected in the early Michigan Spring, which has close to the same water profile that we would typically use but more sweet, sweet sugar for the yeast to munch on, giving us a 9.8% abv. This robust stout has a full body and a deep, rich dark color. It lingers on the tongue and transitions from a roasty character up front to a sweet, maple finish. Last year, we aged Cool Runnings in a Bourbon Barrel and added it to our “Kinky Series” of barrel aged beers. Some of this year’s batch will also spend some time in a barrel, with a special surprise for anyone who loves beer with breakfast! Cool Runnings is available now for Growler or Howler fills, and we also have a few 8oz cans left of last year’s barrel aged version.
