Providing services that strive to enrich the student development, leadership, personal growth, and social experiences of all UNE students with specific commitments to students of color, international students, LGBTQ students.

The Office of Intercultural Student Engagement supports the leadership development, social experiences, and academic persistence of students from traditionally under-represented groups on campus as well as sponsors an array of educational co-curricular programs, lectures, workshops and trainings that increase cultural humility and intercultural awareness for personal and professional development.

In our annual commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s visit to St. Francis College in 1964, the UNE Intercultural Student Engagement will be hosting a keynote address by Dr. Angela Davis. Dr. Davis’ speech is titled “Freedom is a Constant Struggle,” which is also the title of her latest book.

A light lunch will be served on a first come,
first served basis from 12 to 12:30 p.m. The keynote event will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Performance Court in the University of New England Harold Alfond Forum. A simulcast will be aired in Innovation Hall, UNE on our Portland Campus and on our Tangier Campus as well. A brief Q&A will follow. FMI: http://bit.ly/2RE1RNN

The Dear World Live Show will feature and celebrate the stories and voices from around the world AND our own campus. After the show, is a reception and a portrait shoot for you to capture your story! Don’t miss out to join this internationally acclaimed storytelling community.

At the Photo Shoot a Dear World photographer will take your portrait. At the Storytelling Event & Photo Reveal, the Dear World team shares portraits and stories that will make you smile, cry, and laugh out loud. Students are selected to share the stories behind their powerful portraits.

[05/03/17]   Congratulations to all the Biddeford Campus Award winners, held last night in the Harold Alfond Forum. We work with a wide variety of students and we are particularly excited to recognize the following students involved with our office:

Annie McGregor, who received an Academic Excellence award. Annie is completing the Advanced DLC and works in the CXL.

Melissa Klemt, who received an Academic Excellence award. Melissa has previously completed the DLC and served on the exec board for UNitEd.

Abby LaChance, who received the Community Service Award. Abby traveled with ISE staff to Nicaragua last year as part of a travel course.

Ashley Tullo, who received the Student Leader of the Year award. Ashley has been on the exec boards of Alliance and UNitEd, is the current supervisor for the CXL, and been an orientation leader for the cultural immersion program offered to new students.

Ellie Leighton, who received the Sophomore award for academic excellence. Ellie recently traveled to the Dominican Republic with ISE staff.

Christina-Claire Georges, who received the prestigious Jacques Downes Award for academic excellence. Christina is a former president of UNitEd, and heavily involved in creating and supporting events to promote inclusivity on campus.
