It's a brave new world out there now for songwriters and musicians and its so great to see online projects like the Folk Club open mic adjusting and helping us all scratch our musical sharing itches. And Charles McCullough has figured out another bonus of the new open mic: you can send in your video from the folk club open mic to be posted on the #MakeMusicDay wall. Visit https://streamcatcher.org/make-music-day/ and you can search for When It All Goes South (the search function seems to be more reliable when you search by song title) and watch many other great performances. And send us your videos - we'd love to see more folk clubbers up there!
Greetings Folk Club - I'm writing to ask for your collective advice. I'd like to apply to perform at upcoming summer and fall festivals that feature folk, country, Americana performers. Does anyone have suggestions or contacts? Feel free to PM me. Thanks and take care - Charles

Many of you know that Bill Farrar's father, Wallace, passed away peacefully on Wednesday. I know most of you will want to know the details of his viewing and services. Details can be found here:
For those who may be wondering because of today's weather, the Folk Club will meet tonight at the Amphora. Depending on attendance, it may be an unplugged night, with no sound system. Please use your best judgment, and drive carefully if you decide to venture out and join us.
I am intereste in hiring a folk guitar musician and singer to sing the Train Song with me to propose to my life partner and girlfriend of 20 years. My idea is to have you be at a restaurant that I take her for dinner. You play a couple of songs, then I get up and join you in singing to her the Train Song Marry Me (modified slightly). I am thinking we should practice a 1-2 times and then select a good location and date. Price is negotiable. Let's PM about price. I am in Annandale Area but I can travel to Reston/Herndon if needed. If you already have a performance scheduled, and want to roll this into that date, let me know. I am not in a big hurry, but I would like to have this completed by the end of January, no earlier than Jan 2.
The grand finale

Dave Hurd, our longtime friend, treasurer, mentor, historian, conscience, mentor, leader, and gentleman left us on July 2nd. We are bereft and will miss him greatly.
He was so instrumental in making sure that things were done right, and that we provided a good environment to hear folk music, had concerts with professional musicians, and supported music in the local community.
It just won't be the same without him. He did so much for us. But if we keep true to his spirit The Folk Club of Reston-Herndon will be around for many years.

[04/15/20]   Sadly, we are forced to cancel our Tuesday Folk Club open mics until further notice. We must follow the guidance of government authorities and practice physical distancing, until restaurants are able to reopen and groups of people can socialize again. This is a difficult time, but we all must do what is right to minimize the impact of the novel coronavirus on mankind (and it’s sobering to put it that way).
An essential need for the Folk Club is sharing our love of music, and we feel disoriented that we are not able to do that in the company of our friends at the Amphora every week. Therefore, until the human world is on an even keel again, the Folk Club plans to hold a virtual open mic every Tuesday night from 7:30 to 10:00 PM ET.
To stream our online open mic on YouTube Live, go to our calendar page, click the Virtual Open Mic entry in the Calendar of Events, and then click on the YouTube link.
We all look forward to the day when we can meet together again at the Amphora Diner Deluxe in Herndon on Tuesday nights. What a celebration that will be!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Brooks Williams Concert will have to be rescheduled.

[03/13/20]   NOTICE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board has voted to cancel our Tuesday night open mics for the remaining nights in March. The Brooks Williams Concert will be rescheduled. We will reassess as the time draws near but hope that we can resume meeting again on April 7th. Until then, stay healthy and keep a song in your heart!
