In light of the Michigan Department of Health orders going into effect this week, we want to keep you all updated. This new order prevents indoor seating, something we have not offered this year out of an abundance of caution. All of our seating remains outdoors, which means the new order will not affect your upcoming Farmhaus experience.

With the cooler temps we have private heated igloos available to reserve at Farmhauscider.com/winter. These will continue to be available under the most recent order. Please check out Farmhauscider.com/winter often for all the latest information.

Let's continue to work together as a community to fight this thing, wearing masks when ordering cider and socially distancing whenever possible. Thanks for your continued support and understanding.

Today marks what would have been the fifth annual Farmhaus Harvest Fest. While we're sad it isn't happening in 2020, that sadness comes nowhere near our feeling of gratitude for each of you. Every weekend recently has felt like its very own Harvest Fest. Thank you for continuing to show up, hang out and enjoy delicious ciders together. We couldn't do 2020 without you and couldn't be more excited for what comes next.

MI Restaurant Promise

We promise....

From day one we have had the goal to produce the highest quality cider experience available. This includes every interaction you have with Farmhaus whether that's our cider, someone from our small and mighty team or an interaction in the taproom. This promise changes nothing about what we do or how we do it. What it does do is demonstrate this commitment to promoting a community space where all are welcome to safely gather - even in a pandemic.

We are honored to join many other great Michigan companies and demonstrate our commitment to safety and the highest quality products available.

We invite you to experience the largest patio in West Michigan for yourself this weekend!

mirestaurantpromise.com Our MessageAs restaurant owners and managers, we feel a sense of responsibility for the health and well-being of our employees, our guests, and the community at large. A desire to provide hospitalityโ€”the simple act of caring for our guestsโ€”is why many of us joined this industry to begin with.ย A...

GreenTree Orchards 2020

Sometimes it's easy to forget about the hard work of local farmers that goes into every single can of cider. Cider production uses a greater percentage of Michigan agricultural products than any other craft beverage; a fact that surprises many. This time of year is especially hard as this video from last week shows. The next time you are making your beverage decisions remember this great video and choose the drink that not only tastes best, but also supports local farmers! #pickcider @austinlenarfilms

Going North to Blendon

Family is always important, but it feels especially important during times like we are experiencing now. Farmhaus is built on 150+ years of family history and we are honored to be part of a recent project by the Gary Byker Memorial Library of Hudsonville discovering a little more about our own family history and the place where Farmhaus is today! Enjoy the read; for us it brings some perspective to the challenges we are all facing today.

[04/19/20]   THANK YOU!! We say this over and over, but our community is just so amazing. Every week, you not only show up and support our local business and the food trucks we partner with, but you also have been so genererous in your donations for Love, Inc. Yesterday, our friends from Carbon Stories were there shooting some incredible footage from the day. We hope you enjoy this video as much as we do. Cheers! Hope to see you next Saturday!

We are speechless. Yesterday you guys reminded us what makes this West Michigan community so incredible. When our backs are against the wall, you are there for us. Yesterday we had our busiest day EVER!! You guys safely waited in line for over 30 minutes for your cider in what has to be the first ever drive thru cidery or brewery anywhere. Because of your love and support during this crazy time, we can make payroll for another two weeks. We cannot say it enough, from the bottom of our hearts: THANK YOU!! By now you've likely seen the governor's order's to close all restaurants and bars dine-in service until further notice.

In these strange times, we ask that you think of your service industry and craft beverage friends and check in on them. Doing things the hard way is nothing new to us, but we will only get through this with support from our communities.

We will wait to decide if the tasting room will open this Saturday for to-go fills and package orders only. Stay tuned for updates.

Please remember you can order 4 packs, 6 packs and full cases (at a discount!) on our website https://farmhauscider.com/farmersmarket/. We are glad to keep your fridges stocked.

Take care of yourselves, call your neighbors, check on your friends. Wash your hands, drink cider, repeat.

In times of chaos, sometimes a little taste of normal can go a long way. For that reason we plan to be open as normal today 2-10.

Today, like everyday, quality and cleanliness are central to all we do. As an added precaution this week, we will move some of our tables outside to help give everyone more space. Itโ€™s not quite spring, but if you want to pretend it is you are welcome to sit outside.

Weโ€™ve also invited the healthiest food truck around, Gettin' Fresh, because we can all use a little more nutrition these days. Serving 4-8.

Remember, cider and food are always available to go also.

So if you are feeling well, come and escape the world for a little bit at Farmhaus. And weโ€™ll all get through this together.

03/07/2020

Itโ€™s feeling like springโ˜€๏ธ! Taproom hours today 2-10 and our friends from Righteous Cuisine will be here 4:30-7:30. See you soon!

How many different ciders do you carry on average?
โ€œAlways three on draft, and nine in cans. About twelve all the time.โ€

Has your bar always carried twelve? If not, when did that change?
โ€œWeโ€™ve always offered a lot of cider in cans, and one on draft. When I took over the ordering, I decided to put three on tap all the time. Partially because you never see that many on tap anywhere, but also to offer more gluten free options.โ€

Has the variety or amount of cider you sell impacted sales?
โ€œWeโ€™ve always sold a lot of cider, and now that there are more options it has increased. Cider is a regular sale for us.โ€

What trends do you see in cider?
โ€œI think that the more popular cider becomes, more people are steering toward less sweet styles. The general public likes sweeter, but โ€˜cider peopleโ€™ like weirder styles. Cider also has this stigma of being a โ€˜womenโ€™s drink.โ€™ I hate that stereotype. But I donโ€™t think people realize itโ€™s Americaโ€™s first drink. We sell just as much to guys at our bar as we do to women.โ€

What is something you think Michigan Cider could do better?
โ€œI think Michigan cider needs to do more of a deep cut type ciderโ€ฆ.Over all, it leans semi sweet and sweet. Iโ€™d like to see more dry varieties.
I think education is a big part of itโ€ฆ just so people are aware there are more styles. Education for the general public on dry cider styles. Investing in more marketing on dry varietals instead of offering them as an option. I would like to see cider makers also speak up more on their varietals and educate customers that way.โ€

What would you say to customers who may be nervous to try a craft cider?
โ€œIf they donโ€™t have a good grasp of local cider, I let them try a semi sweet and ask them questions on what they normally drink. I like to offer samples of the dry options for diabetics and people with specific diets.โ€

Has your bar done any events centered around cider?
โ€œYes, weโ€™ve done a cider brunch, featured different specialty ciders, a brunch food truck, and doughnuts. We usually do some specials for cider week in May too.โ€

Do you remember your first craft cider, or the first one that impressed you?
โ€œHm.. my first cider ever was Woodchuck or Strongbow. I definitely wasn't blown away. Then I started drinking cider more when we [Pyramid Scheme] had Scrumpy's on tap. I thought, โ€˜Oh this is better than any cider Iโ€™ve had before.โ€™
Then from there I tried some options from Vandermill, and eventually I started getting into dry and unique styles. Virtueโ€™s โ€œPercheronโ€ made me think โ€˜Oh my god, there's more to this than I thought.โ€™ I found Sietsemaโ€™s โ€œMaggieโ€™s Reserve.โ€ I went out to their orchards and learned about Heirloom apples. Iโ€™ve been a cider person ever since.โ€

What styles do you tend to enjoy? What styles do you see your customers enjoying?
โ€œI like funky, super dry, spanish style cider. Customers are pretty middle of the road, depending on the show we have that night. Most people are semi sweet or semi dry. Often 50% of the crowd wants one extreme or the other when it comes to cider.โ€

Do you ever make cider cocktails or blends? What is a favorite go to?
โ€œI have played around with some cider cocktails...Gin works well with cider. Gin barrel ciders work better than whiskey barrel ciders. Weโ€™ve done hot cider toddies. My personal choice is a pint of cider to chase a tequila shot.โ€
