Stand Up Break In is The Riot Theater's official standup comedy show, every Thursday night at 9 PM. Hosted every Thursday by Danielle Andruskiwec and David Thomas, Stand Up Break In is a booked show with a unique lineup of comics each week made up of popular faces in the Boston comedy scene, a headlining veteran and a special slot for a fresh new comic breaking into standup, perhaps even for the very first time!
The last Thursday of every month is an open mic and is open to anyone who wants to get on stage. There's no better way to spend your Thursday nights than Stand Up Break In at the Riot Theater!
Operating as usual
The show may be over, but stay tuned to the page. Danielle and I (David) are cookin' up some ideas.
In the meantime, thanks for the memories everyone.
The time has come for ImprovBoston's annual StandUp Throwdown! Open to comics of varying levels of experience, this tournament provides an excellent chance to perform for sold-out crowds at the theater and network with some of Boston's funniest comics. Stand Up Break In announcement: In May, The Riot Theater is moving to Roslindale in partnership with the theater’s flagship show, ComedySportz! Unfortunately, with this move, we have decided not to move with them.
While the new space is great and provides an incredible opportunity for ComedySportz (which we’re sure will thrive there) we’ve decided it’s not the right fit for our stand-up show. We’re grateful for the 3+ years Stand Up Break In has been able to call The Riot Theater our home, but all good things must come to an end. We will be looking for other venues but officially our last show will be a “Comic Sit-In Parade” where all of our previous Sit-Ins will perform in lieu of an open mic on April 26th! We hope to see you there for one last hurrah!
-Danielle, David & Angela
Announcing our Comic Sit-In for March and April, it's Josh Do!
Josh Do is quiet and small. You could almost miss him if you weren't paying attention, but that would be a mistake because you'd be missing out on one of the funniest comedians in Boston. Josh's performance is smooth and restrained,, so that even the slightest raising of his voice is as effective as a lesser comedian yelling. His material is often dark and absurd, and always delivered with a smirk.
[01/03/18] In light of the snow emergencies tomorrow, we are cancelling our show this week. Stay safe out there and catch us back next Thursday!
Announcing our Comic Sit-In for January and February of 2018, it's Kathleen DeMarle!
Taller than the average American male, Kathleen DeMarle is a Boston-based stand-up comedian and writer. With a mix of self-deprecating humor and oddball storytelling, she’s bound to keep you laughing. Kathleen can be found appearing regularly at venues like The Comedy Studio, ImprovBoston, Nick's Comedy Stop and all across New England. Recently, she performed at the 2017 Cleveland Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Arts Festival and Charm City Comedy Festival. Kathleen’s other comedic pursuits consist of co-producing a monthly showcase show, Laughter on Tap and contributing articles and one-liners to comedy websites including: The Higgs Weldon, WICF Daily, and Unscene Comedy. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoys watching the Food Network while eating microwaveable pizza, dancing badly on purpose, and being her blind dog’s seeing-eye human
There will be no show this Thursday. Go eat some turkey and be with loved ones!
We'll be back on 11/30 with our monthly open mic!
Announcing our final Comic Sit-In of 2017 for November and December, it's Nate Davis!
Nate is a comedian who grew up in Boston, went to college in New Hampshire, and now is back in Boston. He brings his correspondingly worldly views to a variety of stages from just north of the Charles River to just south of the Charles River. Some of his favorite topics to explore are his privileged upbringing, music without instruments, and mob weaponry. When not holding a mirror up to society on the standup scene, Nate can also be found dabbling in the art of improv comedy at Improv Asylum in the North End. Nate’s first ever show was at Stand Up Break In and he is incredibly excited to return as Comic Sit-In! Also, sometimes he tweets at @nclifforddavis!
Announcing our Comic Sit-In for September and October, it's Vally D!
Vally D is a Boston-based comedian. Once she has enough fans, she'll make people learn her last name.
She jokes about current events, her personal life, and her mustache. She has performed at Boston’s Comedy Studio, Denver Comedy Works, Maine’s Portland Comedy Festival, and Reykjavik’s Goldengang Comedy. The objective is to track how mustache humor is received, regardless of geography. Perhaps as the Comic Sit-in at Stand Up Break In she’ll graduate to beard humor.
Some have found her to be "so funny." Others have described her comedy as "funny." Still others have shared no feedback. Share yours on Twitter @VallyDthecomic or her fancy internet website vallyd.com.

Announcing our Comic Sit-In for July and August, it's Jeff Medoff!
"Jeff is a stand-up comedian based in Massachusetts. He grew up right outside of Boston, which he has been told means he can't actually say he's from Boston, which is annoying because it would be way easier just to say that. He spend his childhood around old Jews, caffeinated Italians and boys his own age. He is not related to anyone who ran a Ponzi scheme. If he was, he wouldn't be here. Jeff has performed at Laugh Boston, The Comedy Studio, Improv Boston and other venues across New England and beyond. You can read his tweets twice a year at @theJeffFacts. This is the bio he uses on Tinder."
There's only two more weeks left to catch our current Sit-In Kindra Lansburg before we blast her off on a rocket to the moon! Come on out tomorrow night to watch her host Stand Up Break In w/ Jeff Simmermon!
Tomorrow night! John Paul Rivera of #mideastcorn fame features on our dilapidated stage! Alongside Comic Sit-In Kindra Lansburg (also known as Kendra Lansbury, Kindra Lansburgh and Kindra Linsburg), there's no better way to laugh in a crumbling warehouse than at Stand Up Break In!
We're honored to have Jackie Monahan featuring this week! She's toured the country with Amy Schumer and has been featured on Showtime, VH1, Comedy Central and more!

Announcing our Comic Sit-In for May and June, it's Kindra Lansburg!
Performing regularly around New England, Kindra’s quick wit and keen observations have been making audiences laugh for over a year. Originally from Upstate New York, Kindra lives in Boston and has been performing standup comedy regularly since 2015. Her local credits include Boston Comedy Chicks, Women in Comedy Festival and ImprovBoston. She often writes about her day-to-day experiences, making her storytelling perspective relatable to audiences everywhere. You can often find her providing insight on her abnormally large family, her unique human flaws and her love for nostalgic pop culture.

This Thursday is National Puppy Day. We don't have those but come snuggle our comics instead!
Next week we welcome our new Comic Sit-In for March and April, Dylan Uscher!
Dylan Uscher is your typical gay, cancer surviving stand-up comic. He got his start on the illustrious Stand Up Break In stage in September 2015 and has been tearing up the Boston comedy scene ever since. You can see him perform regularly at The Comedy Studio, ImprovBoston, Laugh Boston and grungy bars everywhere. Dylan is also the creator and host of the new podcast, Yes Homo!, which features the best and brightest LGBT comedians. Yes Homo! is sponsored in part by the Women in Comedy Festival and is a part of the WICF Podcast Network.
Two reasons to come out tonight:
1. We're featuring Weeding Out The Stoned - Jamaica Plain, MA! Hosted by Philly's own Alex Grubard, it's up to the audience to determine the sole sober person from a panel of 16 Boston comedians!
2. It's the FINAL show with Gloria Rose as our Comic Sit-In. Join us as we strap her onto a rocket and shoot her off to the moon!
